Qualifications
Certification: Must successfully complete 40-hour crisis line training and additional 10 hours provided by the agency.
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in related field. Experience in human services preferred.
Valid New York State Driver’s License and insurance required.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work as a team within the criminal justice system.
Working conditions
Minimum of two eight-hour shifts on call required per month. Office is located at the County Office Building.
Reports Directly to: Victim Liaison Supervisor
- To provide advocacy to victims involved in the criminal justice system
Duties and responsibilities
- Will be responsible for providing one-on-one support and advocacy to victims of crime involved in the criminal justice system and family court system. The following services will be provided to victims and their families throughout the criminal/family court investigation, prosecution, following case disposition, and during involvement with probation:
- Advocacy and accompaniment to criminal justice proceedings/family court proceedings
- Information and referral's provided to meet victim's needs
- Victim/Witness education and preparation (including age appropriate information for children)
- Assistance in filing for victim compensation; Assistance with obtaining property return
- Activate and maintain case management tracking system
- Develop and provide victim's rights materials
- Coordinate victim/witness appearances with prosecutor
- Assist victims with creating victim impact statements.
- Review DIR’s and reach out/follow up to and with victims as necessary, appropriate, and agreed upon with the Probation Department.
- Assist, as requested, with making Probation’s correspondence to victims as victim-sensitive as possible; and follow up with clients as requested by PO’s.
- Information given to victims will be done in accordance with the prosecutor to ensure that the criminal case is not jeopardized.
- Maintain appropriate documentation of services provided, statistical data collection, monthly and quarterly reporting as required. Perform reasonably related duties as requested by supervisor(s).
- Assist victims in completing Family Offence Petitions
