    Did You Know:
    • In the U.S. alone, approximately 1 in 3 adolescent girls (estimates up to 35%) is a victim of interpersonal violence
    •  Almost one-third of girls who have been in a relationship (29%) said they've been pressured to have sex or to engage in sexual acts when they didn't want to do so.
    • Dating violence can have a negative effect on health throughout life. Teens who are victims are more likely to be depressed and do poorly in school. They may engage in unhealthy behaviors, like using drugs and alcohol, or develop an eating disorder.

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month

    So what can I do?

In New York State and around the country, February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month. Why not take this opportunity to do your part to raise awareness in your school or community?  Below are links to some pages that provide information and ideas for what you can do. Be creative!  You can make a difference!

    You can:
    • Hang posters at school or at work to raise awareness
    • Read the proclamation aloud on your loudspeaker at work or at school
    • Coordinate an awareness day
    • Request a speaker from CVAC to come and talk to your school,  business or agency about dating and domestic violence.
    • Form a peer organization or awareness group
    • Hold a fundraiser for your local victim assistance center
    • Develop a safety policy for your organization or business
