Internship Opportunities
We accept interns every Fall and Spring. Some occasional opportunities are available over the summer, particularly for individuals who are already trained as Rape Crisis Counselors. Internship applications will be reviewed 4-6 weeks prior to the start of the semester. If you have a deadline to secure an internship by, please let us know.
CVAC offers a number of internship opportunities. We have concentrations in prevention education, legal advocacy, legal services project, the Child Advocacy Center, and counseling*. Below you will learn about some of the different opportunities and responsibilities you may have in each department.

- Observe youth/community/professional presentations with the potential to co-present
- Shadow and potentially co-facilitate education/support groups
- Attend education department meetings
- Present information on CVAC services (public speaking)
- Set-up display table for volunteer/health fairs and provide information
- Attend conferences as available and appropriate
- Assist community educators with department tasks
- Research & development projects
- Update or create presentations, brochures, and other outreach material
- Assist with social media management and post creation
- Community Task Force Meetings
- Community Outreach Projects
- Other duties as assigned by staff
Legal Services Project (LSP):
- Shadow staff attorney and paralegal
- Observe court
- Assist with "preferred provider" project
- Follow up phone calls to victims
- Observe & assist with DWI panel, DV Panel
- Court accompaniment
- Clerical/filing
- Research projects (as needed)
- Legal database entry
- Duties as assigned by staff
Legal Advocacy:
- Shadow legal advocates
- Observe DV court
- Observe Family Court
- Outreach to victims via Domestic Incident Reports (DIR's)
- Follow up phone calls to victims
- Observe & assist with DWI panel, DV Panel
- Order of protection assistance/shadowing
- Court accompaniment
- Clerical/filing
- Research projects (as needed)
- Legal database entry
- Duties as assigned by staff
Child Advocacy Center/Safe Harbour: not available for Spring 2021
- Community outreach projects
- Assist with intakes when appropriate
- Attend to family’s needs during an investigation (attend to kids, coffee, etc)
- Observe some aspects of investigations (when possible & appropriate)
- Research & development (as needed)
- Attend community training opportunities when available
- Outreach to CAC executive team
- Shadow family advocate
- Phone call/follow up with clients & victim’s families
- Update resource material
- Duties as assigned
*Counseling:

CVAC typically takes on between 1-8 interns per semester, depending on availability and need. We do our best to place interns in their preferred concentration. There is plenty of opportunity to cross-shadow multiple departments.
All interns will be expected to:
- Complete the Rape Crisis Counselor Training (40 Hours - Please see schedule on the Volunteer page)
- Complete at least 4 Crisis Line Shifts (32 hours)
- Shadow an Advocate at the Emergency Room (4 Hours)
- Office work as assigned: ie. phones, copying, computer, etc. (5-10 Hours)
- Attend Staff Meetings (1-2 hours)
- Assist with Fundraising (1-10 hours)
