Wednesday April 25th, 2012 is National Wear Denim Day

Picture
We are asking community members, elected officials, businesses and students to make a social statement with their fashion statement and on this day wear jeans as a visible means of protest against misconceptions that surround sexual assault.

How it works: Charge your employees $5 on this day to wear jeans/denim to work

This donation of $5 Crime Victims Assistance Center:
  • Could mean a 16 year old victim of sexual assault will not have to go home in a hospital gown.
  • Could mean a  group of teens  will become educated about how to protect themselves from an assault
  • Could mean someone you love would get the support they needed after an assault.

Denim Day stems from a 1992 Italian court case in which the conviction of a rapist was overturned. Because the victim was wearing jeans, the judge ruled that “she had to help him (the rapist) remove them, and by removing the jeans it was no longer rape but consensual sex.”
